11/09/10 At an Indiana Tree Farm the family can go together into the field to select the freshest tree possible from a variety of species while creating a family experience.  Harvesting a tree from the field gives the family memories that will last through the holiday season and beyond.

Tree farms are busy year round preparing for the Christmas season.  Hundreds of hours are spent planting, culling, shearing, grooming, mowing and maintaining equipment and grounds.   It takes an average of 7-8 years for a Christmas tree to be ready to market.  Mature trees have a deep enough root system to sustain a drought such as we have experienced this year and maintain their freshness.

Some farms also have gift shops that need to be stocked and many fresh greens are made into wreaths and garland.
