12/21/10 Last Friday was the last day of school before the Christmas Holiday for students in the Plymouth Community School Corporation. It also ended up being a day of parties and celebrations along with lots of fun.
Superintendent Dan Tyree was at Webster Elementary School at 9 a.m. to commend the school for raising the most funds for this year’s Shop With A Cop program. Students and staff members were able to donate $850 to the FOP. As the result of their hard work Tyree suited up and took a pie in the face as a reward for the students and staff. Trent McKenzie, Mr. Tyree’s nephew was the lucky kid to throw a pie in his face.
Superintendent Tyree took another pie in the face Friday afternoon at Riverside Intermediate School. The school held a contest to raise $681.30 for the Shop With A Cop program. The contest determined the top two teachers who would take a pie in the face for the cause. Caren Dove was one of the teachers who took a pie in the face although she was prepared with hair covering and a garbage bag for clothing protection.
During the convocation staff members with the assistance of some students sang and performed their original rendition of the 12 Days of Christmas.
Other schools raising funds include Washington with $529, Jefferson with $496.06, Lincoln Junior High School with $474.05, Menominee with $325, and Plymouth High School with $78.81.
Last Friday was also the day Menominee Elementary Principal Michael Dunn took a dip for reading. Mr. Dunn got in a dunk tank and every student who made their personal goal for reading during the first semester had the opportunity to dunk their principal in the tank.
Dunn wore his regular attire including dress shoes and a tie. Each student was allowed two throws to dunk their principal. He spent a great deal of time in the water but felt it was well worth it with a huge majority of his students making goal.

As we approach the holidays, Plymouth Community School Corporation would like to thank everyone out there who has given their time or dollars to help our schools and our students. During the last few years as money has been tight, our community has continued to support Plymouth Schools. Also, at this time I think it’s important to acknowledge how giving our students and staff are to help their fellow students, staff, community, and Hoosiers in need. As of December 18, Plymouth staff and students have given $36,091.26 toward several different local causes. Isn’t it a wonderful place to live!
