This past weekend at the Plymouth Speedway many fans arrived at the speedway for Hoosier Tire Employee night at the races. Many cars arrived in the pit area as well with five classes of cars on hand for the big five in one show.
The evening began with qualifying in the mini stocks Darrin Harrel set the pace with a lap of 14.879. In the street stocks Dave Long had the fastest lap around the 3/8 mile with a time of 15.281. The sportsman watched on as John Barlow grabbed his second straight fast qualifier award with a time 14.167. In the outlaw late models Adam Terry set the pace with a lap of 13.336 seconds.
In heat racing action the action was tight all night. In the mini stocks they ran one ten lap heat. Picking up the heat win was Rich Hensley of South Bend.
The front wheel drives also had an extended heat race. Crossing the line in the top spot was current point leader Tom Hellinga.
The sportsman ran two eight lap heat events. Picking up big wins were Wendell McMunn and Mitch DeWitt.
In street stock racing action the division ran two ten lap heat events. Picking up wins were Jeff Stetler of Bourbon and John La Franierof Westville.
In late model heat racing action Ty Hayes and Mike Ganey both visited victory lane
With the heat racing over it was time to racing in the feature events. The mini stocks pulled out for their twenty lap feature. Picking up the feature win was Ben McCallum. It marked his first a main win in 2010. He was followed in second by Rich Hensley and Darrin Harrel finished in third.
In the front wheel drive feature Tom Hellinga continued his dominance in 2010 with another feature win. He was followed in second by Tom Taylor and Chris Walsworth rounded out the podium in the third spot.
The sportsman ran a thirty lap feature. Picking up the feature win was Ron Maynard Junior. Kevin Gunkel and John Barlow crossed the line behind Maynard respectively.
The street stock feature was twenty-five laps with nineteen cars taking the green flag. Picking up the feature win was current point leader Dave Long. Finishing second
Craig Cassel grabbed his second feature win of 2010 by holding off all other outlaw late models in their forty lap feature. He was followed in second by Steve Stacy as he outran the forty-two of Brian Ross at the line with Ross finishing in third.
This weekend features Back To School Night at the Races with $20 a car load special. It will feature the CRA Howe Late Model Sportsman, CSR Super Cups and Plymouth’s own street stocks, mini stocks, and front wheel drives.
