On Tuesday, December 21st at 12:52 PM the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a scam regarding items listed for sale on Craig’s List. The Sheriff’s Department received a report by a local resident that they had been contacted by an unknown subject inquiring about an item which they were selling. The owner of the item agreed upon the sale price of $250.00 and was informed that arrangements would be made to pick up the item after the seller received a check. The complainant received a fake check for the amount of   $2,350.00.  Along with the check was an explanation saying that an error was made in the printing of the check.   The local resident was asked to deduct the $250.00 and return the remaining balance in a money gram. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is reminding residents to use caution to potential scams and to not give out any personal information.
