12/24/10  On Wednesday, December 15th Officer Bruce Carter with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a burglary at the residence of 20466 16th Road in Culver. The homeowner advised that sometime between Monday, December 13th and Tuesday, December 14th someone broke into their house while they were gone and stole some items.

On Tuesday, December 21st at 12:52 PM the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a scam regarding items listed for sale on Craig’s List. The Sheriff’s Department received a report by a local resident that they had been contacted by an unknown subject inquiring about an item which they were selling. The owner of the item agreed upon the sale price of $250.00 and was informed that arrangements would be made to pick up the item after the seller received a check. The complainant received a fake check for the amount of   $2,350.00.  Along with the check was an explanation saying that an error was made in the printing of the check.   The local resident was asked to deduct the $250.00 and return the remaining balance in a money gram. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is reminding residents to use caution to potential scams and to not give out any personal information.
