KANKAKEE, IL – The Ancilla College women’s basketball team suffered their worst half of basketball this year as NJCAA #3 Kankakee Community College won 105-52 on Saturday.
The Lady Chargers (2-3) trailed 60-22 at the half and were outshot 45-27 in that frame.
“Up to this game, it had been our defense that kept us in games, but it was clear from the start that Kankakee was on a different level than we are currently,” said Ancilla head coach Dave Liverance. “This is by far the best Kankakee team I have seen in my years at Ancilla College.”
Kankakee (6-0) was absolutely dominant on the boards, outrebounding Ancilla 56-16.
Six different players reached double figures in scoring for Kankakee, led by Demetria Ward with 19 points and 15 rebounds.
Ancilla was led by Meghan Brown with 11 points.
“We must learn to play at a quicker pace, get stronger in the weight room, and develop into better shooters if we are going to compete not only for a conference championship but at the national level as well,” said Liverance.
Ancilla will open conference play on Wednesday when they travel to Lansing, MI, to play MCCAA Western Conference rival Lansing Community College. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m. EST.
