“Joe Donnelly went to Washington four years ago as a conservative Blue Dog Democrat and he’s represented the district well,” wrote the editorial board in its endorsement. “He’s been a strong advocate for veterans, AM General — which makes the Hummer — small businesses and the RV industry, especially during the economic downturn.”
“He’s the kind of sensible voice Congress needs if it’s going to get things done — or, in the next Congress, change things,” the editorial board continued. “Donnelly is a rare lawmaker who doesn’t want the spotlight. In a debate last week he said, ‘I’m just Joe. I’m a workhorse.’ And that has benefited the 2nd District. We’ll continue to expect Blue Dog Democratic votes from him if he returns to Washington.
This area needs a representative who can build bipartisan relationships and make a difference in Washington, not blurt angry sound bites that make her a hit on cable talk shows but destroy any chance of effectively representing her district in Congress. We encourage you to vote for Joe Donnelly.”
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the Elkhart Truth,” said Donnelly. “I will continue to be a workhorse and not a show horse because we need less bickering, less partisanship, and more working together to find common-sense solutions to our country’s challenges. I thank the Truth for their assessment of my work on behalf of the industries important to our community, and I will keep working non-stop for the privilege of serving the people of the Second Congressional District.”
