The Lady Chargers (1-0) limited Bethel to just 5-of-30 shooting in the first half, taking a 26-14 advantage into the break.
Guards Katrina Vannoy and Meghan Brown each scored 11 points to lead Ancilla while forward Allison Worden added 10 points and eight rebounds on the night.
Sophomore forward Shalana Murray proved dominant on the boards, grabbing 14 rebounds to lead all players.
One of the things that pleased Ancilla coach Dave Liverance most was the way his team took care of the ball. Despite Bethel employing a press the entire game, the Lady Chargers committed just 15 turnovers.
“Obviously, it was a good start to our season,” said Liverance. “It was a good test. I thought we had some solid guard play, Shalana Murray cleaned house on the boards, and Allison Worden was very solid.”
The Lady Chargers will resume play on Saturday, November 20 when they host Edison Community College as part of a men’s and women’s doubleheader at the LifePlex in Plymouth. The women will tipoff at 1:00 p.m., followed by a 3:00 p.m. tipoff for the men. Both games will be broadcast by local radio station WTCA AM1050 and can also be heard at www.am1050.com
