Las Vegas Standout Acosta Signs with Ancilla

June 21, 2010

Anthony Acosta of Las Vegas, NV, has signed with the Ancilla College men’s soccer team for the 2010 season.

Acosta was a 2009 Nevada All-State selection after helping lead Las Vegas High School to its second consecutive state championship in Nevada’s Class 4A, the largest class available for soccer.  It was Acosta’s penalty that ultimately clinched this year’s championship, helping Las Vegas win 4-3 in a shootout against Bishop Gorman after a 1-1 draw in regulation.

A three-year letterman under Wildcats coach Vince Hart, Acosta is a very able player at both the right and center back positions, known for his ability to read a game well and for providing excellent service both on the ground and through the air.

In addition to receiving Nevada All-State honors, Acosta was also named All-Region and selected as a Sunrise All-Star for the second time in his career.

Acosta is also a former Nevada ODP selection.

“Anthony is absolutely a great addition to the squad,” said Ancilla men’s soccer coach James Drzewiecki.  “Beyond all the accolades, beyond the championships, Anthony is really a top notch young man from a good family.  When you add in the capabilities he brings with him as a soccer player and his aptitude in the class room, he’s everything we could want from a student-athlete.  We’re very excited to begin working with him in August.”
