This past Saturday night the CRA Howe Late Model Sportsman pulled into town for another fabulous action packed event. The seventy-five lap feature was won by Ron Maynard Junior of Union, Michigan.
The night started out with qualifying. Setting the pace for the sportsman was Derrick Griffin with a time of 13.840. In the street stock division Shawn Amor set the pace with a lap around the 3/8 mile in 15.315. The mini stocks watched on as Darrin Harrel set the pace for the division with a time of 15.076 seconds.
The night began with racing for the CSR Super Cups. They ran three heats of eight laps each for both the junior and adult divisions. In the junior division Tyler Brown picked up the checkered flag. The adult division followed Ed Ensor and Steve Holterman across the line for their respected wins.
In the heat racing action for the front wheel drives Tom Hellinga continued his dominance this season with another heat win.
The mini stocks ran two eight lap heats with both Craig Frase and Dave Biesmeyer picking up checkered flags.
In the street stock division the heat racing action was close. When the checkered flag fell over the fast heat Ken Landry was the leader and he nabbed his first win of the season. Jeff Stettler grabbed the second and final heat win of the night.
After a brief intermission with school bus rides for the kids it was time for the feature action to begin. Ed Ensor won the twenty lap adult division CSR Super Cup feature. Tyler Brown also made it a nightly sweep with the win in the junior division twenty lap feature.
The mini stocks ran a twenty-five lap feature. The racing action was side-by-side for most of the race as Darrin Harrel tried to muscle away the win from Ben McCallum. McCallum was not having any of it as he held on for his second straight win of 2010. Harrel finished second while Derrick Davis rounded out the top three.
The twenty lap feature for the front wheel drives went to Tom Hellinga once again in 2010. He was followed in second by Chris Walsworth and Austin Woodcox in third.
In the CRA Howe Late Model Sportsman seventy-five lap feature Ron Maynard Junior got out front early and held on for another big feature win in 2010. He was challenged late in the race by Joe Beaver, but Beaver got high in three and four with five laps to go and fell back to fourth. Finishing in second was John Barlow and Kale Asztalos finished in the third position.
The final race of the night was for the street stock division. It was a twenty-five lap spectacle that Shawn Amor led the field across the line in first to win his first feature in 2010 at the Plymouth Speedway. He was followed in second by Pee Wee Warren for his best finish of the season and Cory Lindsey rounded out the podium in third.
