Neighborhood Center Helps All Applicants

December 24, 2010

12/24/10 Only days ago, the Marshall County Neighborhood Center was still scrambling to find funds and other donations to fill the last 111 applications of the over 500 applications they received for help for Christmas. Due to the generosity of the community, they were able to complete the daunting task.

According to Director Sarah Hendrix, almost all of the applicants were asking for food and other basic needs. Hendrix said, “Under the needs section of the application, people were asking for coats, boots, underwear, pants and shirts, but only put down one or two things in the wish portion such as a toy for a child.

Helping to make it possible for many was a donation gathered in downtown Plymouth by several downtown merchants and other volunteers.    Hendrix said, “They gave us $1,100 in cash and many bags of clothing.” She said the clothing was especially needed since most of the items were in the sizes for teenagers. She said the Center had absolutely no teenage items left before the donation came in.  “It was great to get the six or seven bags of food collected by them too. Nearly 90 applications came in just asking for food.”

Hendrix said, “We are very grateful for the generosity of the community. My hope is that they keep us in mind throughout the year since the needs keep continuing.”
