11/19/10 Members of the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission were updated on the Oak Drive Project. The project includes widening Oak Drive north of US 30 to Hoham Drive.

City Engineer Rick Gaul said the bid letting was November 10th.  Six companies submitted bids for the project.  Gaul said that the engineer’s estimate for the project was revised to $2.4 million.  High bid was $2,459,442.5 by Walsh and Kelly.   The apparent low bidder was HRP Construction of South Bend with a bid of $1,862,962.96.

Gaul explained that they are waiting for INDOT to breakout the portions of the project that will be 100% the city’s responsibility and the portions that will be included in the 80/20 federal split.

The lowest bid was considerably under budget and bidding was quite competitive with the difference between the two lowest bids only being $1,500 on a $2 million project.

There is still some paperwork to complete before the notice to proceed will be given and then the city will be required to pay their 20% before construction will begin.  It is anticipated that work could begin near the end of the year although weather will play a big part in when construction begins.
