10/13/10 The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will periodically close Pierce Road on Thursday and Friday, October 14 and 15. Crews will be placing beams on the bridge structure for the new U.S. 31.

The work will take place just east of Kenilworth Road between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day and will result in the road being closed for approximately 20-30 minutes at a time while the beams are moved into place. A flagger will be on site to stop traffic during the placement.

The U.S. 31 corridor project from Plymouth to South Bend will upgrade the corridor to a freeway with access only at interchanges. Fifteen miles of the 20-mile corridor will be built on new terrain.

The purpose of this project is to reduce congestion, improve safety and provide for the reliable and efficient movement of commerce and regional travel.  As part of Governor Mitch Daniels’ Major Moves program, congested sections of U.S. 31 are being upgraded between Indianapolis and South Bend. Additional information about the project is available at www.us31plysb.com.
