05/03/11  There is a group of individuals who strive to communicate more effectively through presentation skills. These individuals are part of a club, called the Wythougan Toastmasters. They meet every Friday morning at 6:45 a.m. at Christo’s Family Dining Restaurant in Plymouth.

Last Friday, the Wythougan Toastmasters had a special event to celebrate the fifth year since being chartered into a local club officially. This celebration was called “Toastmasters to Toast.” Guests included friends, family and Toastmaster members – current, past and future (we hope!). Typical Toastmaster agenda items were in place including updates by the timer (see photo of Greg Payne during the timer report) and the Joke of the Week, presented by special guest Jim Causey (see photo), with an additional award ceremony to recognize some key leaders of the club.

President Marcy Eckhoff Wagner kicked off the special award ceremony as she presented Mayor Mark Senter with a Distinguished Service award. As a co-founder of the club, Mark shared some stories of his past meetings with the club.  Also presented with a leadership award was co-founder and active club member, Dennis Wenzel.

On behalf of the members of the Wythougan Toastmasters, Andrea Cook presented the charter members who are currently active members of the club with special recognition in continued commitment and leadership. These special individuals included (see photo, left to right)  Teressa Welborn, Steve Weaver, Jan Houin, Marcy Eckhoff Wagner and Dennis WenzelNot pictured award recipients include Eric Anderson, Chris Morrow and Vera Tiani.

Special acknowledgement to our Club Meeting Master, Annika Piazza who spearheaded the efforts to make the event take place. Annika also competed in a Toastmaster competition later Friday evening in Indianapolis where she was named third place in the District Evaluation Contest.

In addition to Annika’s leadership, other club members who contributed to make the event special include Marcy Eckhoff Wagner, Steve Weaver, Teressa Welborn, Marianne Peters, Andrea Cook, John Oliver (and John’s wife for helping with the certificates!)
