Early last Friday morning, June 25, troopers with the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Section (E.R.S.), with the assistance of the state police Drug Enforcement Section, and Marijuana Eradication Section, raided a suspected drug house in South Bend.  The troopers served the search warrant at 1721 Huey Street shortly before 6:00 a.m.

The two-month drug investigation that stemmed from a traffic stop that was made weeks earlier by an inquisitive trooper concluded with the arrest of eight individuals and more than 70 charges that will be filed with the St. Joseph County Prosecutor.  Troopers recovered more than 10,000 dollars along with two handguns and a sawed-off shot gun.  An I.S.P. K-9 unit assisted in the search of the home and helped uncover cocaine, heroin, marijuana, ecstasy, and several different types of prescription drugs.

Trooper Andy Barker of Plymouth stated, “This place was a one stop shop and go.  We found several different types of prescription drugs along with everything else that was packaged and ready for a quick sale.  In fact, one subject was arrested after he knocked on the backdoor of the house while we were conducting the search.  All he had on him was a weak story and twenty dollars.”  That subject, Pablo Lorenzo, 45, of South Bend, was later arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Elkhart County for escape.

Arrested from the home are Tyree R. Slater, 38, Severia J. Gray, 62, Elmo Perry, 64, and Aaron J. Jones, 48.  All four of the Huey Street residents face a multitude individual charges ranging from dealing and possession of controlled substances to possession of a sawed-off shotgun.  Also arrested out of the residence is Marc Wuthrich, 39, of South Bend, Dianne N. Lewis, 22, of North Liberty and Kendrew M. Slater, 28, of Chicago, Illinois. The three face similar charges of possession and visiting a common nuisance.  The eight subjects arrested were transported by the South Bend Police Department to the St. Joseph County Jail.
