Wawasee Girls Shootout will feature three of the four teams ranked in the Top 20 in the state of Indiana.   Norwell-#3,  Plymouth-#14, and Wawasee-#16.

GAME  1: (10 am)

Norwell carries the best record in the tournament at 11-1.   This group is coach by former Plymouth Assistant, Eric Thorton.   He has four seniors returning, but junior star Jessica Rupright, who’s averaging 17 ppg, has been the piston that keeps this offensive machine going.   Senior Catilyn McGrew has been the other problem for opponents.  She’s averaging around 12 ppg.

Norwell has an inside presence that few opponents have been able to slow down for four quarters.

Plymouth goes in 8-2 on the season, winners of two straight games.   Ironically, it’s been Plymouth’s inside presence that has won them 95% of their games.   Senior Center Marissa Green (4 ppg & 5 rpg) and sophomore Amber Redinger(11 ppg & 5 rpg) have been a dominate duo to stop for Coach Dave Cox.   A good supporting cast of Senior guards Megan Barron and Haley Smart, along with forward Erin Kinney have made Plymouth a force to reckon with.

OVERVIEW: This year may be the year Plymouth matches up with Norwell athletically.  It will be a battle of defensive efforts and inside execution.   If you love basketball , you will love watching this match-up.   A Plymouth Head Coach vs his Assistant.   Both know each others programs like the back of their hands.   The one team the executes the most with fewest mistakes,  will win this game.

GAME 2: (11:30am appx)

Wawasee  is 8-1 heading into the host team tournament.   Wawasee under 13 year head coach Kem Zoleman has another outstanding group of young lady’s who are playing above their skill level.   Led by sophomore phenom, KiLee Knafel (19 ppg), the lady Warriors are averaging 49 ppg, giving up 37 ppg..  Wawasee youthfulness last year has developed into experience this season.  Wawasee will try to hurry you on offense.   Smother you defensively.   This years Lady Warrior team is pretty quick on both sides of the ball, and will utilize this feature against both opponents today.

BreBuf Jesuit (1-7) is having another down season.  If they have another losing year, it will be their fourth consecutive year that’s happened.   But here’s what’s not getting talked about.  Their strength of schedule!  It is brutal.   They have three teams currently ranked in the top 20, ten more who have winning records already.   Freshman, Anna Imhoff has been the scoring leader for the Lady Braves, she’s getting 9 ppg currently.    The remaining starting five are averaging around 6 ppg.

KEY:   Brebuf will have to figure out a way to match Wawasee’s discipline and athleticism.  Kem Zoleman is a master at getting the best out of everyone of his players.   Wawasee’s defense should smother the Lady Braves offense which is averaging  just 39 ppg.

Plymouth has the potential to knock off #3-Norwell and handle Brebuf easily.   Key is playing aggressive on both sides of the ball for Plymouth, especially vs Norwell.

Best Wishes & Happy New Year!
