06/23/11 There were two accidents involving bicycles on Oak Hill this week. On Monday at 4:58 p.m. Plymouth Police Officer Bridget Hite was north bound on Michigan Street waiting to make a left turn onto Oak Hill. Once southbound traffic cleared Officer Hite completed the turn and started traveling west on Oak Hill when a bicyclist road between two vehicle stopped at the stop sign on Oak Hill and into the driver’s side front bumper.
The 16 year old male biker struck the driver’s side front bumper and went over the handlebars before landing on the ground. The bicyclist was checked and the scene by Plymouth EMS and refused treatment.
County Officer Matt Brown investigated the accident and found that Officer Hite’s dash camera was on when the accident happened. The video revealed that the bicyclist actually struck the police car.
Plymouth Officer Mark Owen investigated the accident. Brian Blake of Plymouth was north bound on Jim Nelson. He stopped at the intersection with Oak Hill and began to roll forward when he struck Deb Palmer who was riding east bound on Oak Hill.
Palmer sustained non-life threatening injuries in the accident and was transported to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center where she was admitted. Her injuries were not sustained from impact with the vehicle but from hitting the ground.
