If we place glass in these bins intermingling with the plastic and paper products, how will it be sifted out? I'm pretty certain that it would end up in shards at the end of the trip. What type of plastic will be allowed? I do recall that Allied waste has stated that it isn't taking certain types because the price is down. I thought the point of recycling was for a greener Earth, not to turn a bigger profit. Heck, if that were the case, why would I recycle in the first place? Why don't I just take it in myself, and add to my wallet? Will we still be allowed to put larger items around the can, or would they be "ignored?" Finally, my brother-in-law followed a recyclable trash truck to its destination where he lives. It turned out to be a landfill that the rest of the trash was being taken. What are we to do with these? For a city trying to become "Greener," we sure do create a lot of refuse by obsoleting our garbage cans and recycling bins each year. Have you ever heard there is no such thing as a free lunch? There will be a catch down the road here. We just aren't being told yet what it is. What the story fails to mention is that Mr. Stone eluded to the fact that a few years down the road he envisions we follow the same lead as what has occurred in California and that is residents are awarded gift certificates and coupons for participating and having a certain amount of recyclables. Yeah, I bet we're all gonna get rewarded for our garbage. Sorry to be so critical, but that was dangling a carrot that will never happen in Plymouth. This is simply a way for the garbage company to save money because it's more efficient for them to use a truck to pick up a 96-gallon toter rather than manually picking up the smaller orange tubs by hand. Let's just see if the monthly rates we pay goes down soon as a result. Also, we're currently paying an elevated garbage rate each month to pay for the new big green toters. So, when will they be fully paid for and when will the rates be reduced as a result. We're all collectively holding our breath for that members of the City Council.
