08/24/11 This past weekend at the Plymouth Speedway the track hosted a back to school special for all students seventeen and under getting in for free for a fun and wild night. It was filled with school bus rides around the track and a nickel pitch. It featured the outlaw late models, late models, street stocks, and front wheel drives.
In qualifying the outlaw late models were led by Flying Brian Ross with a time of 13.345 seconds around the 3/8 mile. In the late models John Marshall led the way with a time of 13.996 seconds. In the street stocks the division was led by Shawn Amor with a time of 15.066 seconds. In the front wheel drives Rowdy Ryan Birk was the fastest to record a lap of 16.364.
After a brief opening ceremony it was time for heat racing to begin. In the outlaw late models Bryce Schaefer recorded a win in his first week back since opening night. In the fast heat found Bobby Stremme in victory lane.
The late models ran two eight lap heats. Going to victory were Mike Cannon and Mike Schewchuck.
In the street stock heat events the racing was close and fierce. Chris Highbaugh won the first heat for two heat wins in a row between two weeks. The fast heat winner was Dave Long.
After a brief intermission it was time for the feature racing action to begin. The outlaw late models ran a forty lap feature with Shawn Amor in his first outlaw late model feature of the year. Amor took care of business ahead of Brian Ross. Ross in search of his second feature win in a row and third of the year failed to clear Amor. Amor took Kenny Whitman’s number nine to victory lane for the win. Ross held on for a close second and Steve Stacy rounded out the top three with another consistent finish.
The late models were dominated by Nick Pressler as he tries to close the gap on the point lead to John Marshall. Pressler went on for the win with Mitch DeWitt having his best finish of the season in second. Marshall held on for third.
In the street stocks Shawn Amor capped off a brilliant night of action with yet another feature win ahead of David Long in second. Finishing in the third position was Jeff Stetler, the new point leader for the division.
In the front wheel drives Bill Miller sliced and diced his way for his second feature win of the season ahead of second place finisher Rowdy Ryan Birk. Fred Miller rounded out the top three.
This Friday night the Plymouth Speedway will host Ladies’ Night at the Races which will allow the first 100 ladies through the front gate for just $2! The night features the outlaw late models, late models, street stocks, and front wheel drives. For more information go to www.plymouthspeedway.net.
