Ancilla Earns Split with Cougars

May 5, 2011

DONALDSON – The Ancilla College baseball team split a doubleheader with Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Tuesday, dropping Game 1 3-0 before returning the favor with a 3-0 victory in Game 2.

Jared Eller pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings in relief for the Chargers (12-31, 7-19 MCCAA) after Kalamazoo Valley took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first.

Eller allowed just four hits and a walk during that span, but received no run support as the Chargers managed just three hits.

Dustin Kreft doubled for Ancilla while Darius Kincaid and Nick Patterson each singled in the loss.

In Game 2, Nic Caban and Josh McQueary combined for the shutout, allowing just two hits and three walks total.

Patterson finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs while Patrick Kinney and Jake Kosinski each finished with two hits.

Kincaid added an RBI single and a run for Ancilla.

“This was a complete game for us,” said Ancilla skipper Joe Yonto.  “I am very happy for these young men.  They have been battling.”

The Chargers resume conference play on Thursday when they travel to Benton Harbor, MI, to play MCCAA rivals Lake Michigan College.  Opening pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. EDT.
