02/11/11  The Ancilla College athletic department will partner with the Ounce of Prevention Foundation during the scheduled February 12 women’s and men’s basketball doubleheader against Kalamazoo Valley Community College as part of their annual Chargers for Change fundraising event.

Held at the LifePlex, games will tip-off at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.  Admission will be five dollars with all proceeds used to benefit the St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.

Ounce of Prevention is a local foundation dedicated towards raising money to fight breast cancer.

“We would like to thank Ancilla and the Chargers for their continued commitment to Ounce of Prevention,” said Jennifer Houin, a co-founder of the Ounce of Prevention Foundation.  “The Chargers for Change basketball games are always a great way to start off every year.”

Chargers for Change is an initiative created by the Ancilla College athletic department to help serve the underserved in the local community.

“Once again, we looking forward to partnering with Ounce of Prevention in raising awareness about breast cancer,” said Dave Liverance, Head Women’s Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at Ancilla College.  “The Women’s Basketball Coaching Association (WBCA) has been doing this for the past four years, and I am honored to be a part of this special day.”

Last year, the event helped raise over $1,500 and event organizers have expressed their desire to surpass that number this year.

Among the festivities will be a bake sale, a raffle, a half-time money grab, and relay games for children.

“Certainly, breast cancer and cancer in general has touched all of our lives,” said Todd Zeltwanger, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement at Ancilla College.  “This is a small way to give back within our community for a very worthy cause and at the same time teach our student athletes the importance of getting involved in something beyond just themselves.”

The LifePlex is located at the intersection of Pine Rd. and US 30 in Plymouth

Ancilla College is a Catholic, two-year, co-educational, liberal arts college in Donaldson, Indiana sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.
