Ancilla Splits Conference Opener at Glen Oaks

March 30, 2011

CENTREVILLE, MI – The Ancilla College baseball team split its conference opener at Glen Oaks Community College on Tuesday, shutting out the hosts 4-0 in Game 1 and falling 6-0 in Game 2.

Freshman pitcher Josh Copp went the distance for Ancilla, scattering four hits over seven innings to pick up his second victory of the year.  Copp has gone 23 innings without allowing a single earned run this season.

Nick Patterson, Patrick Kinney, and Brandon Dale each knocked in a run for the Chargers (4-11, 1-1 MCCAA Western) while Robert Hinds finished 2-for-4 on the day.

“It was an excellent pitching performance by Josh Copp,” said Ancilla skipper Joe Yonto.  “He was in total command on the mound today and the team fed off of that.  Solid defense and key hits by Dale, Kinney, and Patterson helped pave the way.  That is the level and consistency we have to play to reach our goals for the conference.  We battled them start to finish.”

In Game 2, Tyler Jackson surrendered a run in the fifth and five in the sixth to take his third loss of the season, falling to 1-3 on the year.

Dale finished 2-for-3 while Evan Depew added a double for Ancilla.

The Chargers will resume play on Thursday when they host MCCAA Western Conference foe Kellogg Community College.  Opening pitch is at 2:00 p.m. EST.
