Argos Boys & Girls Soccer advance to the Semi-State for the first time in the same year!

October 18, 2011

For the first time in Argos history, both the Boys and Girls Soccer programs advance to the Semi-State round in the SAME YEAR!   It still is uncertain if this is a IHSAA record or not.  But there’s nothing like home cooking!  At least that’s what the Argos Lady Dragons Soccer team is saying after a Saturday night win in their 3-0 Regional Championship win over Hanover Central.

Lady Dragon, Jami Paterson was the star in this game by scoring a goal and getting an assist.  The Wildcats failed to score a goal for the first time all season and fell 3-0 to Argos in the IHSAA Class A regional final.

Stefany Parrish got the Lady Dragons on the board in the 7th minute mark of the first half.   Patterson’s goal came just before halftime to make 2-0 Argos at halftime which proved to be the icing on the cake.
With the win, the Semi-State comes home Argos at noon Saturday to host the 16-2-1 Mishawaka Marian Lady Knights.
If Argos (14-6) wins, they advance to the Championship game of the Semi-State against either FW Concordia (14-5-1) or West Lafayette (14-5-2).
Not to be outdone….the Boys were winners in Saturday night’s Regional Championship game.  The 13-6 Dragons defeated West Lafayette 6-1 to advance to Laville’s Semi-State game next weekend.   3 goals in an 11 minute span broke the game wide open for Argos.
The game didn’t start out the way Coach Todd VanDeWeele had hoped.  The Red Devils scored in the first minute of the game.  But the Dragons answered approximately two minutes later with a penalty kick by Ronald Tanner to tie the game for the Dragons at 1-1.

Argos freshman Damon Binkley scored back-to-back goals to give the Dragons a 3-1 lead and never looked back.

After getting the four goal lead, the Dragons really focused on defense, as discussed the day before, and kept the Red Devils off the scoreboard for the remaining 79 minutes of soccer!

Now the Dragons will play a Semi-State game this Saturday morning at Newton Park in Lakeville against a talented 17-3-1 Bethany Christian soccer squad who is coming off a 1-0 Regional Championship win over Andrean.   Gametime is set for 10am
