10/14/11 The Argos Town Council recently held a public meeting for the 2012 Budget.  Council President, Dave Walker, told those in the audience that the Council and Department Heads had a lot of work and effort involved in the 2012 Budget.  The Budget for 2012 is $1,293,771.  There is an increase of $27,000 over the 2011 Budget.  The Police Department has in the Budget a request for a new patrol car for $20,000.  This follows the five year rotation of the patrol cars.

With the restructure of the Property Tax, communities are experiencing a loss of tax income.  Argos will not be receiving $50,000 due to the Circuit Breaker law.  One way to make up the loss is with “Payment In Lieu of Taxes”.  The Utility Departments does not pay property tax.  They could pay all, or a portion, of what the tax would be to Argos.   It was determined that the Electric Department will pay $49,702 and the Water Department will pay $10,000.   The Waste Water Department can not afford a payment at this time.  This will be an annual payment.   The Argos Council approved Resolutions 2011-8 & 9 for Payment in Lieu of Taxes.
