It was going to big a daunting task to upset State ranked Oak Hill in Regional play at Caston Thursday night. The Golden Eagles record was not misleading at 14-2, they’ve earned it. However, on Thursday night, it featured an underdog whose soccer program has developed into a statewide exemplary program in the sport of soccer over many years. The Argos Dragons.
To beat Oak Hill, patience and aggressiveness have to be a balance on both offense and defense. The Dragons accomplished that balance by games end with a 2-1 upset win over Oak Hill to advance to the Regional Championship on Saturday night!
Two first half goals, one by Damon Binkley and the other by Zach Stockman held as the Dragons have made it to next post-season round. Oak Hill got within one when Austin Daughrety got the Golden Eagles within one…but that was it.
Like most sports you need offense to get ahead, but it’s the defensive effort that can win you ballgames. Jacob Mechling played all 80 minutes between the pipes facing just three shots and stopping two of them.
Congratulations to the 11- 6 Dragons on moving onto the Regional Championship this weekend.
