Argos Soccer relives a little history as both Boys & Girls Soccer teams become Sectional winners!

ARGOS SOCCER HEAD COACH TODD VANDERWEELE from LUNCHTIME SPORTSTALK!

The Argos Boys Soccer Dragons won a thrilling 3-2 Sectional Championship on Saturday night.   To make it more thrilling, was it happened on Penalty Kicks!

“It was amazing!  Our kids battled the whole entire time.  Bremen was very aggressive on us but we were able to get the thing in penalty kicks where I knew we had a good shot at winning this game!”, said Argos Coach Todd VanDerWeele.

Sometimes winning involves “gut feelings”.  That’s exactly what coach VanDerWeele had when subbed in a replacement goalkeeper Zach Stockman with 6:21 left in the second overtime who made two incredible PK stops during his time between the pipes.

“The change had nothing to do with Jacob’s (Mechling) play, but my gut feeling that Zach should be in there at this exact moment.”, added VanDerWeele.   “Mechling gave us 80 plus minutes of solid goalkeeping in a high pressured game.  I just felt with the way things were going, to simply put Zach in.  It worked.”

As if it weren’t enough, Bockman also scored twice for Argos in leading them to their first Sectional title in 10 years!

Argos moves on to the Caston Regionals to face a 14-2 Oak Hill squad at 5pm Saturday.
