03/23/11 The Bourbon Police Department is now operating at full force following the hire of two full-time officers last week. The Town Council approved the hire of Rick Kanarr and Matthew Haskins, both of whom had been members of the reserve force.

The department had been down two positions after the retirement of John West in June of 2010 and the death of Gary Collins in February of this year.

Kanarr previously served with the Bourbon Department for four years as full-time officer and then went to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department for ten years.

Haskins had been working as a part-time reserve since 2005. Police Chief Bill Martin said Haskins had volunteered to work extra hours to help out the department after learning of the passing of Collins. Haskins had been working full-time with the LaPaz Police Department until he was approved by the Bourbon Board.

Martin praised the dedication of all the reserve officers saying, “They have done a wonderful job and I’m very grateful.”

Martin said, “We are very lucky to have Kanarr and Haskins. They will help to make the department stronger.”
