10/27/11 44 year old Brian Kabay of North Liberty is a lucky man.

Monday evening about 7:45 Kabay was traveling west of 1st Road east of Quince Road going through a curve to cross the railroad tracks.  As he was approaching the tracks he was checking both ways to make sure there were no trains coming.  His 2007 Chevy Cobalt traveled off the asphalt and got stuck on the tracks.

Kabay made several attempts to get the car moved with no success.  When he saw an approaching train he walked away from the vehicle and the train crashed into it pushing it approximately a mile down the tracks.

Kabay was able to move away from the vehicle before the crash and sustained no injuries.

The vehicle was removed from the site of the crash by Lyon’s Wrecker Service.
