Chargers Claim Important Win at Muskegon

January 31, 2011

MUSKEGON, MI – The Ancilla College men’s basketball team put themselves back in contention for the postseason with a crucial 65-63 win at Muskegon Community College on Saturday.

Joby Renbarger posted 19 points and eight rebounds for the Chargers (3-13, 2-6 MCCAA Western), helping them snap a six game losing streak and move within one game of fifth place in a very tight conference race.

“Other than us struggling to rebound, I thought we put together a solid 40 minutes of half court defense,” said Ancilla men’s basketball coach Greg Neeley.  “We won the turnover and free throw battles.  Those are two statistical categories we haven’t won much until today.”

Ancilla committed just nine turnovers on the night and got to the free throw line 37 times in the victory.

Antonio Cannon finished with 14 points while Isaiah Christy added 10.

“We had a lot of different guys contribute, and not just in the box score areas,” said Neeley.  “Our energy level was good, and we made winning plays down the stretch.”

The Chargers resume play on Saturday, Feb. 5 when they when they host MCCAA Western Conference opponent Jackson Community College.  Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EST.
