AUGUSTA, MI – The Ancilla College golf team finished sixth at the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Early Bird, held at Stonehedge South Golf Course on Thursday.
The Chargers shot 380 as a team, led by freshman Zach Schumacher’s round of 83.
Schmacher finished in the top 25, individually. He was seven strokes behind the medalist, Randy Norris of Saint Clair Community College.
“Zach finishing in the top 25 was quite an accomplishment and shows that he can compete with the top players in our conference,” said Ancilla College golf coach Marc Hayden.
Skye Shaneyfelt and Nic Caban each shot 97 on the day for Ancilla while Tyler Jackson fired a 103.
“We knew ahead of time that this course would be a difficult challenge since no one on our team played any rounds here,” said Hayden. “This was actually the first golf match of the year on the course due to the difficult spring weather in central Michigan.”
Mott Community College took top team honors, shooting 306 on the day. They were followed by Grand Rapids Community College (314), Kalamazoo Valley Community College (315), Saint Clair Community College (324), Jackson Community College (333), and Ancilla.
