The Chargers shot 351 as a team, led by freshman Zach Schumacher’s round of 77.
Schmacher finished just four strokes off the lead, as Grand Rapids Community College golfer Garrett Branch took top honors with a score of 73.
Nic Caban shot 90 for Ancilla, while Skye Shaneyfelt and Tyler Jackson each checked in with a 92 on the day.
“I was pleased with the composure and mental toughness the team showed,” said Ancilla College golf coach Marc Hayden. “These guys have had very few reps in this season and I am confident the scores will improve as the season progresses.
“Zach had a solid round and battled his way through the weather to post his 77. Skye had a tough hole that cost him some extra strokes and had a few putts not drop that will later in the year. Nic and Tyler are good athletes and will be much more comfortable with a few more competitive rounds under their belts.”
Grand Rapids finished in first with a total score of 300. They were followed by Muskegon Community College (306), Kalamazoo Valley Community College (311), Jackson Community College (312), and Ancilla.
