PLYMOUTH – The Ancilla College women’s basketball team scored more field goals – and still lost by double digits – as NJCAA #11 Kalamazoo Valley Community College won 72-50 in MCCAA Western Conference action on Saturday.
The story of the game was at the free throw line, as Kalamazoo Valley (16-6, 11-2 MCCAA Western) connected on 27-of-33 free throws to maintain a lead throughout the game. Ancilla (5-15, 3-9 MCCAA Western) managed to get to the line just six times.
“We scored more field goals than our opponent, we out-rebounded them, and we should win the game,” said Ancilla women’s basketball coach Dave Liverance. “When it comes down to it, we need to play better defense with our feet instead of our hands.”
Kalamazoo Valley’s Kaitlin Vincke led all scorers with 21 points, shooting a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line.
Naomi McNeal was the only Ancilla player to reach double digits, recording 11 points on the night.
The Lady Chargers resume play on Feb. 16 when they travel to Grand Rapids, MI, to play conference rival Grand Rapids Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EST.
