11/23/11 The Union-North United School Corporation is working closely with the Health Departments of Marshall County, St. Joseph County, and the State of Indiana in alignment with The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to address a recent outbreak of Chickenpox.

They have confirmed the eighth case of chickenpox at LaVille Elementary School.

Limited vaccinations were made available on both Tuesday and Wednesday for both students and staff of the elementary and high school.

Letters were sent home to notify all parents of the current situation, and additional information will be sent to those students who do not have a record of appropriate immunization against chickenpox.

It is imperative that parents understand that for the health and well-being of all students and staff. Children who have not been appropriately immunized will not be allowed to return to the school until proper documentation of immunization has been received.

Please be assured that all efforts are being taken by the Health Department to provide the immunization, and by the school corporation to work diligently to make sure students will experience as little interruption as possible to their education.  Parents are encouraged to contact the school administration to make necessary arrangements for the continuation of their child’s education during this time.

All forms and letters will be available on the school’s website at

www.unorth.k12.in.us

If parents have questions they should call the school administration or the interim superintendent.
