11/18/11 A fire alarm coming from Menominee Elementary at 6:19 p.m. on Thursday turned out to be a false call. Reportedly, a child pulled the alarm during a basketball game in the school’s gymnasium.

The ambulance had just left the fire station when the call was cancelled. Fire trucks were not yet in route when the disregard notice came in.

According to Menominee Principal Michael Dunn, when the alarm is pulled ,the signal goes to the fire department and, at the same time, to the school corporation’s maintenance staff. David Schoof, director of maintenance, was on vacation, but still responded to the alarm and arrived at the school within seven minutes.

Dunn was not in the school when the alarm went off, but was able to advise the staff at the school on the proper way to reset the alarm.
