Last weekend, the back-to-back series with Detroit Catholic didn’t fair so well. This weekend’s match-up with Orchard Lake St. Mary’s turned out to Coach Al Clark’s liking. CMA swept the two game series against the Eaglets with a 7-0 shutout of the visitors from Michigan.
“I thought we did better getting out of the gate early and playing three solid periods of hockey.”, said Clark. “We have been struggling more than I like at playing 3 full, hard periods of hockey. When we forcheck and win the battle along the boards, good things happen to us.”
CMA got on the board at the 9:23 mark of the first period when Ryan Berry scored his 6th goal of the season to make it 1-0 Eagles. Eagles controlled all aspects of the period outshooting OLSM 20-5 after the first 18 minutes of hockey.
The Second period was dominated by CMA as well. Three goals were scored one a shorthanded bid by Max Tehar, who scored two in the period himself. Tehar has just recently signed with the St. Louis Bandits of the NAHL. CMA outshot OSLM 13-3 after 2 periods.
The third period, much like the first two, had 3 different Eagles light the lamp including another shorthanded goal, this time by Oliver Janzen with 4:31 left in the game. CMA outshot OSLM 14-5 in the final frame.
“This game could have been really out of reach if it weren’t for the play of OSLM’s goalie Joe Janiga”, said Clark. “Our offensive pressure was pretty steady today, the way we know we can do.”
Janiga faced 47 CMA shots by games end!
CMA improves to 17-10-2 on the season. They will hit the road for their next 5 games. WTCA will air Eagles hockey on Sunday, Febuary 20th against Lake Forest Academy at 1:45pm.
