11/30/11 During last week’s County Commissioner’s meeting bids were opened for the leasing of 163 acres more or less of farm ground at Shady Rest. Three bids were received from Smith Family Farms, Vories Farms, and Robin Roberts.
The current 3-year lease which concludes at the end of this year was with Robin Roberts. Roberts had been the successful bidder three years ago with a bid of $175.00 per acre cash rent.
Bids opened this month were substantially higher with Roberts bidding $257.00 an acre, Vories Farms bidding $267.75 an acre, and Smith Family Farms bidding $338.00 per acre.
The Commissioners accepted the high bid from Smith Family Farms for a 3-year lease from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2014.
