I attended the meeting on Saturday (I DVR'd the Triton game). I went to ask the Congressman just one question. Why would the government reduce the Social Security tax of those of us who are lucky enough to have a job from 6.2% to 4.2% when all we have ever been told is Social Security is going broke? Why not reduce the Federal tax rate 2%? Why raid the program that is supposedly going broke? Surprisingly, the Congressman was not able to answer the question but promised to provide me a reason by Friday next week. I would have thought this was a pretty basic question, but I'm willing to wait a few days for some logic in this mind-boggling decision. Sure, we all are happy about a 2% pay increase in our weekly checks, but what happens next year when the reduction goes away? Don't you think people will look at this as a "pay cut?" Sure they will. Be prepared when that day comes. I do appreciate Mr. Donnelly coming to Plymouth to listen to citizen's concerns. I'm not a democrat, but he still seems like he is a good guy.
