09/13/11 Trinity United Methodist Church in Plymouth definitely appreciates their Fire Department. The church, located at 425 S. Michigan Street, is planning a corn-hole tournament “fun” raiser and tailgate party to help the Plymouth Fire Department (PFD) provide fire safety literature to Plymouth grade schools. On Sunday, October 2 Trinity’s second annual Cornhole Tournament and Tailgate Party will be held and open to the public. All the proceeds raised during the event will go to help the PFD purchase a variety of age appropriate fire safety literature from the National Fire Safety Council.
“We appreciate the dedication of our fire department and all our first responders here in Plymouth” said Barbara Holcomb, event planner. “Each June, our church honors our fire, police, and sheriff’s departments with an award presentation and a cook-out for every member of each department and their families. But we wanted to do more than that. We decided to help them in a way that makes a difference to them and to our community. That is what Trinity is all about, making a positive difference in people here and throughout the world and that’s how the cornhole tournament began.”
In the corn-hole tournament, each two-person team will donate a $10 entrance fee and play for a chance to win a trophies and prizes. Registration for the round-robin tourney will start at 2:30 PM. There will be an adult and a children’s division.
In addition to the tournament, tailgate food will be served with monetary donations accepted. “Last year we grilled brats and hotdogs, had great desserts and salads. I am sure the community will be in for another treat this year,” stated Holcomb.
