04/18/11 On Tuesday, April 19, at 6:30 pm, Earthworks will be showing Hidden Dangers in Kids’ Meals, a 29 minute film describing some of the issues about genetically modified foods.  The screening is open to the public.

School districts, supermarkets, even whole countries have banned genetically engineered foods, fearing that they are not safe.  In this film, Jeffrey Smith, author of Seeds of Deception, explains the science behind genetically modified organisms, and argues convincingly that children are most vulnerable to the potential problems of GM foods. The film concludes with excerpts from the dramatic story of how student behavior in a Wisconsin school was transformed by changing cafeteria offerings to healthy foods. Some strategies to avoid harmful foods are offered. This is a short film (29 minutes), but densely packed with provocative information: it’s a film that every parent should see.

The film will be shown in the new classroom at the Earthworks Market, 701 E Jefferson Street.  Admission is $2.00.  For more information, please call Earthworks at 574.935.4164.
