04/15/11 The Union-North United School Board officially filled a newly formed position of Athletic Director/Dean of Students for the LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School at a meeting held on Thursday night.

William Hostrawser had served Athletic Director previously for LaVille during the 2005-2006 school year. He then transferred to Oregon-Davis as an AD, staying through the 2006-2008 school years. Hostrawser also filled the same type of position with the Penn-Harris Madison School District.

Currently he is the owner/operator of Beef O’Brady’s restaurant on Miller Drive in Plymouth where his love of sports shines through with sports memorabilia decorations and television sports broadcasts.

According to Superintendent Dr. Terry Barker, Hostrawser will oversee the athletic wing of the school along with responsibilities involving other student activities, monitoring the parking lots during bus drops and pickups, and other duties.

By way of compensation, Hostrawser will receive a salary of $58,000 per year based on a contracted 235 days. He will additionally receive a two percent annuity and the corporation will pay towards health insurance for either a family plan at $10,862 or a single plan of $5,107.

Barker continues to make a number of recommendations for staffing needs for the 2011-2012 school year. Among those recommendations is the hiring of assistant principal at LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School. Due to budget cuts last year, the position of assistant was not filled as a full-time position, but rather a shared position with the elementary school when the then assistant, Chuck Phillips, was moved to the principal job.

Other recommendations include adding a full-time math teacher, returning the position of secretary in the athletic department and hiring an in-school suspension supervisor.

Barker said they will continue to take a look at the number of students enrolling in both the industrial technology and business classes before making final decisions on staffing.

Meal prices for both the LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School and LaVille Elementary will be increased as of the 2011-2012 school year. The price of breakfast will increase from $1.25 to $1.50 for both schools. Adult breakfast prices will also increase from $2.00-$2.25.

Lunch at the elementary level will go from $1.75 to $2.00 and at the Jr.-Sr. High School from $2.00 to $2.25.

Adult lunch prices will increase from $3.00 to $3.25 at both buildings.

Extra milk will remain the same at 35 cents.
