12/01/11 During last month’s County Commissioner’s meeting Kevin Overmyer said that several individuals have contacted him recently about hunting on county owned property such as the Memorial Forest and Mill Pond.  The hunters were specifically asking if there was an ordinance in place allowing or prohibiting hunting on county property.

14th Road resident, Joe Harner told the commissioners that as many as 200 hunters and trappers have used or currently use the Memorial Forest.  He asked that they be allowed to continue hunting.  He also recommended a central parking area so that people could be award of others using the forest to hunt.

Harner also said that having people in the forest wards off those who are doing illegal things in there.

During the discussion the commissioner expressed their concern about liability for injuries on county-owned land.  They also had concern that hunting would preclude other types of recreation.

No action was taken o the subject and the commissioners agreed to take the matter under consideration.
