04/08/11 Marshall County Highway Superintendent Neal Haeck had a special guest at the Commissioner’s meeting this week.  He invited Bob White, the Railroad project manager from the LaPorte office of INDOT to update the commissioners on a crossing.

Mr. White discussed the Muckshaw Road rail crossing just south of the city limits.  He said, “It have been a long process,” explaining that they had an agreement with CSX Railroad for a project that was to be completed in April or May of 2010.  Then early last year a portion of the line that included the crossing on Muckshaw was leased out to Elkhart Western.  That change caused INDOT to begin the process all over with the new company.

A meeting is scheduled for early June with the project anticipated to begin the second part of July.  The project will include lights and crossing arms.  White explained that costs are federally funded, although the signs and pavement markings will be the responsibility of the County.
