07/26/11 The Plymouth Community Youth Orchestra enjoyed a very busy summer! During their first week-long summer camp in June the beginners learned to use their bows.
July started with two symphony orchestra performances. On July 6th, a concert was given at Miller’s Assisted Living Community in Plymouth, followed by an evening outdoor concert on July 10th at beautiful Lake Maxinkuckee. The PCYO was invited to perform in Culver as special guests of the Marshall County Church Orchestra, which generously presented the PCYO with a monetary honorarium. The students performed some of their favorites including Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”, “Circle of Life” and “Jurassic Park”. Thereafter the two orchestras combined and performed the exciting “Surprise Symphony”.
The month continued with a second week-long PCYO summer camp where everyone was busy learning new songs to perform at the Blueberry Festival. After all that hard work, they gathered for a fun and refreshing lake social at Lake Latonka. The kids enjoyed hours of swimming at the beach and tubing!
Each month, a small group plays during church services throughout Plymouth. In June they played at the Church of the Brethren, in July they were guests at the First Presbyterian Church, and on August 14 they will visit the First United Methodist Church.
The PCYO will hold their third week-long summer camp August 8 – 12. Rehearsals will begin after school starting the week of August 22. For more information about the PCYO please visit their website at www.pcyorchestra.webs.com.
