03/30/11 The Marshall County Ag Day Committee is holding two events this year to promote the value of agriculture to our community. Both events will be held at Centennial Park in Plymouth on Thursday, March 31.

During the day from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm there will be several educational displays pertaining to Marshall County Agriculture for area residents to view.  From 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm there will be a “Taste of Marshall County” event in  the horse barn highlighting many products raised in Marshall County and educational displays on agriculture and food safety.

Goal of the committee is to inform the public how Marshall County Agriculture participates in producing our food and share the importance of this industry to our local economy.

Sponsors of Marshall County Ag Day are Marshall County Farm Bureau, Culver Young Farmers, Marshall County Dairy Association, North Central Beef Cattle Association, Marshall County Pork Producers, Marshall County SWCD, Marshall County 4-H Council and Junior Leaders, Marshall County Purdue Extension, Case IH-North Central Agri-Power, Culver Duck Farm, Beacon Credit Union, Farm Credit Services, Gen-Tech Farm Seed, Gilsinger Implement Co. For the day event, the committee will have educational displays on dairy cattle, beef cattle, ducks, swine, sheep, draft horses, natural resource conservation, crop production, farm safety, nutrition, electrical safety and 4-H program.  If you have time over lunch hour or throughout the day, please stop by the park and check out our displays or call to schedule a time.  If you are a fulltime homemaker, this is a great activity for you to learn about our agricultural industry that raises food you find in area grocery stores.

“Taste of Marshall County” will be a fun and taste rewarding experience!  Of the various displays during the day, we will have food items available for you to taste from local farmers.  In fact for the evening activity, the list of agricultural enterprises represented will grow.  We will have popcorn, beef, lamb, dairy, rabbit, bison, pork, duck, salsa and chips, fruit, and vegetable tray; what a smorgasbords!  Also, we will have educational displays and fun activities for kids as well!  Come on out and enjoy!

If you plan to bring a group of individuals to attend the day activity, we would appreciate you calling the Marshall County Extension Office at (574) 935-8545, so that we can be prepared for you. We already have a busy schedule planned for the day with area 3rd graders coming to the event.  Again, the Marshall County Ag Day Committee will be holding an event in Centennial Park in Plymouth on March 31st which is a Thursday, from 8:30 am through 2:30 pm in the afternoon.
