08/29/11 The Marshall County Coroner’s Office investigated a fatal truck accident Friday morning on US 31 south of State Road 10 in Argos.

61 year old Jerome D. Seward of South Bend was southbound on US 31 when according to witnesses he suddenly veered to the right shoulder and down an steep embankment ending up just short of the Topps Manufacturing parking lot.

A witness to the accident approached Mr. Seward in the cab of his truck and started CPR.  Argos Fire, EMS and Police responded immediately and asked that the Coroner’s Office be contacted.  Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger pronounced Mr. Seward dead at the scene.

Early Friday afternoon an autopsy was conducted for the Coroner’s office and preliminary reports indicated that Mr. Seward had suffered an acute medical condition immediately before the accident. Preliminary results indicate he died of natural causes and not as a result of the accident.

No one else was involved and the accident remains under further investigation.  Argos Fire and EMS were assisted at the scene by the Argos Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department officers and the Indiana State Police.
