Manny Perez of Marathon, FL, has signed with the Ancilla College men’s soccer team for the 2011 season.
Perez, a central midfielder, has captained Marathon High School the past two years under former University of Detroit Mercy standout and current Dolphins coach James Murphy.
“Manny is a player we’re counting on to bring some toughness to our midfield,” said Ancilla men’s soccer coach James Drzewiecki. “One of the things Coach Murphy really liked about Manny coming up to the Midwest is his ability to play that blue-collared style of soccer. He’s a skilled player as well, and he only makes our midfield stronger going forward.”
Perez tallied 12 goals and eight assists this season and has lettered three years for the Dolphins.
Prior to arriving at Marathon, he spent his freshman year playing varsity for Ashe County High School in North Carolina, where he scored eight goals as a left winger.
Perez serves as a youth coach in Marathon in his spare time.
Ancilla College is a Catholic, two-year, co-educational, liberal arts college in Donaldson, Indiana sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.
