01/11/11 Participating in the Macy’s Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade is the chance of a lifetime and several college students from Marshall County has that opportunity last year.

The Purdue University All American Marching Band from West Lafayette was selected 18 months in advance of their appearance on thanksgiving, Thursday, November 25th.  Band Directors from across the nation were invited to submit an application and DVD of the band’s field marching performance to Macy’s Band Selection Committee.  The process also included a thorough review prior to selection.

Plymouth High School graduates: Stephen Boener, Mae Christiansen, Zack Heet, and Doug Booth participated along with Andrea Erickson (John Glenn)

More than 3.5 million people viewed the parade live along the parade route and more than 50 million viewers tuned in to the television broadcast.   Spectators watched in awe as 10,000 participants, including the nation’s best marching bands, performance groups, giant helium balloons, breathtaking floats and of course, the arrival of Santa Claus.
