05/27/11  The Marshall County 4-H Drill team has once again organized a Memorial Day parade in Tyner. The parade will begin at 2:00 P. M. Eastern Time. Participation by the team has been a tradition since 2002. This year’s Drill Team has 20 units.

Anyone wanting to enter a unit in the parade is asked to be at the starting point at the Polk Township Fire Station by 1:30. The parade route will go through Tyner and end at the cemetery with a Memorial Day ceremony featuring our guest speaker, Rev. Rose Wooke.  Adding to the ceremony will be members of the National Guard, American Legion and the V.F.W. Taps will be played by two members of the John Glenn High School Band.

Leading the 20 member 4-H Drill Team is Harry Eskridge. Eskridge said last year there were 70 units in the parade and near 1000 people attending. Eskridge said, “We honor the men and women in the Armed Forces as much as we can.”

According to Eskridge, the Drill Team is structured in a military fashion that encourages discipline and respect.

You may view the parade anywhere along Main Street, but the best place to watch is from the cemetery where the ceremony will be held.  We are anticipating well over 200 people in attendance.
