10/10/11 The 78 students of Menominee Elementary 2nd grade teachers Kathy Hunt, Allison Menser and Becky Roth headed to Amish Acres in Nappanee on October 6.

Visiting Amish Acres is the traditional field trip that is designed to acquaint the children with how other cultures live day-to–day as well as see what life might have been like in the past.

The children toured a cider mill, saw an apple butter making demonstration, held a spelling bee in a one-room schoolhouse, toured a house used by Amish families from past generations, watched a blacksmith shop demonstration, and viewed a movie depicting Amish life.

Lunch served family style and consisting of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, home-style bread, and cookies was a real treat. Each child was given an apple and a small gourd as a memento.

The teachers shared their appreciation for the volunteers who accompanied the group.
