02/10/11  David Blodgett is the February Feature Artists at Heartland Artists Gallery. He is a well know muralist as well as accomplished wildlife painter.    His murals are sprinkled throughout the South Bend Community one of which is painted on the side of a building located on Colfax Avenue.  His wildlife paintings in gouache are breathtaking.  You will not want to miss this show.  Heartland Artists will host a reception for David Blodgett on Friday, February 11, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.  This is a FREE event and the public is invited!

Dave Blodgett was born into an art family.  His father was a commercial artist and wildlife painter, while his mother is one of the most respected craft painters in the Midwest.  He and his wife Linda got a B.A. degree from I.U.S.B. and they both got their M.F.A.s from the University of Oregon.

Dave and Linda got their Grad degrees in 1977 and, almost by accident, fell into mural painting.  He and Lin have collaborated on over 150 murals since 1978.  They didn’t set out to become muralists but projects kept coming their way and they continue today.

Aside from the murals Mr. Blodgett has been involved in many other art projects.  He has drawn courtroom scenes for television and taught drawing and painting at I.U.S.B.  Two Christmases ago he illustrated a Santa book and is currently working on two more.  His father was involved with wildlife painting and he coaxed him into trying, this show has some of Dave’s better efforts.
