11/28/11 Plymouth High School Speech and Debate Team members traveled to two very different tournaments over the November 19 weekend.

Competing in the national Glenbrook Tournament held in a suburb of Chicago were Pauline Dagaas, Olivia Hilliard, Kate Peters, Ellen Smith, Jason Pickell, Kyle Barry, Rebecca Brumbaugh, Patrick Felke, Michaila Nate and Kelsey Shaffer.

The Glenbrook Speech and Debate Tournament is one of the largest high school tournaments in the nation. Nearly 210 high schools from all over the country entered students in the contest that historically has 2,500 contestants.

Competitors compete intensely for two days.

Hilliard ranked in the top 40 in Drama while Felke and Shaffer ranked in the top 30 in Extemporaneous Speaking.

Other team members headed to Elkhart Central High School for a one-day contest. Contestants competed in four rounds.

Due to the fine showing of the team members in individual events, Plymouth won first place with 210 points over second place Chesterton with 137 and third place Valparaiso with 81.

Points are earned by the various rankings by individuals in the contest.

Rankings in the Novice Division were as follows:

Prose: Christie Gorka, first; Travis Tredway, fourth; Jenny Dudash, fifth; Kristen Pressler, seventh.

United States Extemporaneous: Brantlee Joseph, fourth.

International Extemporaneous: Katie Hickman, fifth.

Declamation: Garrick Nate, fifth.

Original Performance: Shelby Pratt, first.

Poetry: Christie Gorka, first; Anna Piazza, second; Peyton Vasquez, seventh.

Broadcasting: Travis Tredway, second; Maura Faulstich, third.

Drama: Anna Piazza, second; Jenny Dudash, fourth; Maura Faulstich, fifth.

Humor: Shelby Pratt, second; Stephanie Anderson, seventh.

Impromptu: Brantlee Joseph, third; Katie Hickman, fifth; Stephanie Anderson, sixth.
